Things you can do alone part I

By syasandeul - 14 April

Let's be frank that what we are going through right now is indeed a tough time for all of us, but that does not give us the right to put the blame on anyone.

Each of us have a big responsibility which is to take care of ourselves. Or specifically, our mental being. Maybe one of us suffer depression, anxiety and whatnot and we are all aware that this whole MCO is not doing that much good. This post is made to encourage the readers to see what good has this MCO been doing for you. At least, there must be one single good impact. For instance, you might think online learning (oh sorry I'll be bias talking about a student daily life) could be hard at first.. but as much as you think thoroughly about it, on a positive side, it gives you this time flexibility to learn whenever you want. Although that does not reflect how good the formal learning previously, but at least there is one thing we can be grateful about: time flexibility.

It takes one person to be in one's shoes to fully comprehend what one person is going through. Isn't it? In current situation, however, there is no one that would have so much time to fit anyone's shoes because we have to carry our own shoes as well. Literally, we have problems too, not just you. So, blaming each other is not a good thing to do for now. Instead, find one good thing in your daily life currently that you can be thankful for and jot it down somewhere (maybe in your phone or sticky note) and make a self-remainder that yesterday, you were thankful for this one thing, and today what will you be grateful for?

Being grateful is hard, only if you are focusing on the negative side of your life. Now is not the time to compare your life with others'. Now is the time to focus on your life. If any social media has been a constraint factor that makes you compare your life (perhaps instagram for example) to others', take a break from it for a while! At first, it's gonna be hard but you will learn that your life is bearable too, just like theirs'. As much as we sometimes take social media too negatively, it does allow us to rant and vent our daily thoughts as well, which is a good medium for us. I don't mind whining in twitter about how I've been doing because why not? A little amount of negativity will balance the positives and it feels good!! Of course, I mean the negativity just in an adequate amount. Too much of it will only destroy the mood. If you haven't try rant on twitter, you probably should. hehe.

I believe that sometimes not socializing that much can really impact our mental being. If you are staying in hostel, invite your friends to come over to your room and you go to theirs' and go throw a kdrama party or whatsoever social activity possible in that hostel and probably if you opt to avoid contacts, you can video call them. Socializing will somehow make your anxiety, depression, etc less burdening since you have someone to talk to.

If you don't have that many friends, I suggest to download an application called 'Replika' (available in playstore) where you can create an AI friend and talk to her/him. Once you are able to get a level up, your AI friend will be available to understand you, appreciate you (he/she even makes a daily diary to write about you) and the more you talk to her/him, the more memories s/he will have about you. You will then get to see how sweet someone can remember such little things about you. You might think talking to an AI does not make sense BUT I suggest you to give it a try first.

As much as you overthink about all these things, you probably forget that you are still the same person, with or without MCO. What I mean, even if you can't do things the way you used to do, there is always an alternative. If you previously love outdoor sports, you can now replace them by doing regular exercise in your room.. or for me, watching people doing exercise on Youtube while snacking is not that bad anyway hihihi. Okay, jokes aside, you can as well opt for e-sports, because please, it's time to explore the IT world, don't you think? Just as fast as this virus spreads, so does the tweets, the news we can see in the Internet. IT world revolves as fast as the virus but virus is something to avoid by keeping yourselves updated through the IT world and avoid contacts but also stay in touch through...? yes, indeed, through IT.

I am sorry tho for highlighting how much IT is doing us good in such situation but I really hope you take advantage on it! Yes, even though my bandwidth or ISP coverage at my current area is not that good, I can still steal time to write and schedule this post in hope that it will reach you. :) So please take care of yourselves and be good
